There is nothing more ugly aa stained ceiling… it makes your house look and feel old, untidy and unloved! (Especially after tenants have been smoking in the home!)

One of the other main contributors to a mouldy ceiling is little sections of missing insulation in the corners and around the edges.

Is the mould in your house reappearing?

Do you smell a damp odour in some rooms of your property, or your gut feeling tells you there could potentially be a serious moisture problem or leak?

We use one of the most advanced, fast and cost effective ways to determine if you have leaks or moisture problems… without putting any holes in your wall! Infrared thermal imaging cameras can detect leaks that are causing problems behind the wall.

The first step is to use the mould removal spray on this website, and if the mould reappears in a short amount of time, you know the issue is more than meets the eye. Here’s an example of what an infrared camera sees…

This infrared photo shows moisture under the carpet that the human eye could not see.

Here’s another photo of a simple hidden leak under a window that could be causing toxic black mould growth behind the wall, allowing dangerous mould spores to potentially enter the room through any gaps around the window frame…

If you suspect the mould problem is simply surface mould, then purchase the relative mould cleaning product on this website which suits your needs… just like many other clients do each week. If you feel the problem is deeper and potentially originating from behind the wall, then we can give you a free quote via email for an infrared thermal moisture scan of your house.

If you would like to book a thermal imaging inspection, email us the size of your home (in square meters), and the suburb the property is located. We will come back to you in the next 12hrs with a free quote.

Email us at lab@removehousemould.co.nz today with the details of the job, and we’ll get right back to you with a free quote!

How to clean algae and moss off all types of surfaces… fast!

DESCRIPTION: A mildly alkaline biodegradable algae and moss removal solution whose action is brief and instant because of its combination with organisms and organic matter. Prevents new growth for approximately 18 to 24 months and possible longer depending on the rainfall and foliage cover
USES: Removes black algae, moss and green slime from dairy sheds, concrete driveways, walkways, paths, paving, synthetic grass, hard courts, roofing, brick, concrete or stonewalls and Mondo running tracks.
APPLICATION: For best results on a porous surface, hose down first and wait until all surface water drains off leaving a damp look. The product can be applied with a hand sprayer, watering can. Or simply poured on and moved around with a broom. Heavily affected areas may need a second application or a rub with a stiff bristled broom to loosen the build up.
SYNTHETIC GRASS COURTS: When treating a synthetic grass court for algae and moss, begin cleaning at the high point. Work in sections (we recommend an area of the full width of the court by approximately 2 meters in length) Flood the carpet with water, when carpet is full pour the product on top. The algae/moss remover will begin to work instantly on the tennis court and as the water recedes it will be pulled down through the carpet / turf and san completely cleaning it. Heavily affected areas may require some scrubbing with a stiff bristle broom. Continue procedure for full length of the court.
HARD COURTS: Hose down affected area then remove all surface water by brooming off excess leaving the surface damp. Spray the product on or pour onto surface and distribute evenly with a soft bristle broom. Hose down thoroughly to complete. Continue procedure for full length of court.
ROOFING: Here’s how to clean algae and moss off a roof using this organic cleaner. Work on a cold surface and out of direct sunlight to avoid product evaporating or drying out too quickly. Early morning or late afternoon is ideal. Hose down area to be cleaned (we recommend an area of 2 meters wide and the full height of the roof) When all surface water has run off, spray the product on liberally starting from the top and working down. Due to rapid run off second applications are often required. Some scrubbing with a stiff bristle broom may also be required. Hose thoroughly removing all trapped dirt and grime to complete

Algae / moss remover will not harm plants provided they are hose down well should they come in contact the product. The product is unique in the way it works and its lasting effects. We know you will be more than satisfied with the product however.

MOULD AND MILDEW REMOVER
(Organic Formula)
Less than 1% toxic Ph 7.5

Composition: A mildly alkaline biodegradable solution whose action is brief and INSTANT because of its combination with organisms and organic matter. Also acts as a sterilizer, bactericide, fungicide, disinfectant, kills germs and is biodegradable.

Uses: Removes mould and mildew from most sealed surfaces. Use on ceilings, internal & external walls, wallpaper, shower screens, prams & strollers, annexes, tents, boat canopies, outdoor furniture, eaves, rails, guttering etc.

Applications: Ceilings, Walls & Wallpapers – The most effective method for ceilings and walls is to spray the product on,. We recommend a MIX OF 120MLS CONCENTRATE & BALANCE WATER TO 1 LT. Working steadily cover all areas well. After all traces of mould have disappeared, use a slightly damp sponge to wipe off excess moisture. We recommend spraying wallpaper for best results. Work from the bottom up to prevent streaking. Streaking occurs when spraying begins at the top and excess product runs down the walls leaving clean lines. To eliminate streaking spray the entire area from the bottom and work up.

Once the area has been cleaned and all traces of mould have disappeared, wipe area well with a clean dry cloth to remove excess solution. Wallpaper should be tested for colourfastness first.

Bathrooms – Bathroom silicon is generally a difficult problem because mould forms beneath the silicon and is protected by it. To treat always begin with a dry surface (excess water will dilute the product) spray each morning and night for a week. A mix of 1 PART CONCENTRATE & 3 PARTS WATER is required to clean this area The product will penetrate the silicon and the mould will disappear.

Annexes, Tents & Boat Canopies – Because annexes and tents are usually waterproof both sides will need to be treated. Begin from the bottom and working up to prevent streaking, spray product evenly. A MIX OF 1OOMLS CONCENTRATE TO 1 LT OF WATER Wait 3 to 5 minutes for mould to disappear. Re-apply to any areas you may have missed remembering to apply both sides then WIPE down annex or tent and allow to dry before storage. Boat canopies most often form mould on the underside. Spray entire area liberally and when all traces of mould have disappeared, WIPE thoroughly. All annexes, tents and boat canopies must be tested for colourfastness and retention of waterproofing capabilities first.

Outdoor Furniture, Prams & Strollers – Spray liberally onto affected areas and wait 3 to 5 minutes. Cushions should be sprayed from both sides because these are the items we sit on and serve food on, hose down thoroughly and leave to dry. Heavily affected areas may require further applications. Use the same procedure for prams and strollers but remember to check for colourfastness first and to hose down thoroughly when complete. A MIX OF 1 PART CONCENTRATE & 3 PARTS WATER FOR BEST RESULTS

Outdoor Walls, Eaves, Guttering & Rails – Spray affected areas liberally. Avoid working in the full sun or on a hot surface, as the product will dry out before it has had a chance to work. Because the product is mildly corrosive hose down all metal surfaces thoroughly when all traces of mould has disappeared.

Smoke Stains – Although not designed for this purpose, the product is brilliant for cleaning smoke stains usually occurring on walls and ceilings. Visible as a general yellowing of paint, smoke stains will occur right throughout the home but are more visible in the kitchen due to general cooking and the lounge room due to smoking. Using a sponge will remove most of the stains, however for the best results we recommend spraying the product on. using a MIX OF 1OOMLS CONCENTRATE TO 1 LT OF WATER The reaction is instant leaving the surface looking pristine and freshly painted (repainting will still be required if the paint is cracked, peeling or scuffed). Wipe excess moisture off using a clean dry cloth.

NZ OWNED MOULD CLEANING PRODUCT!

It won’t actually feel slimmy, but you know that if you tested your skin cells for traces of mould after a shower (or walking into a bathroom), then there’s a good chance it will come up positive.

The other downside to mould in grout, is that it looks very ugly! What would your visitors think when they use your toilet whilst visiting you, and they glance into your shower and see how dirty it is!

So, how do you clean mould out of grout?

What are the different types of mould colours?

There are several different coloured moulds that could be ’growing’ in your home, such as: ‘white coloured mould’ or ‘green mould’, ‘grey colour mould’ or ‘brown mould’, or, even more generally, ‘black mould’ / ‘toxic black mould’. So how do you know if the mould is bad for you? What does the colour mean?

Here is a general ‘easy to understand’ summary of the most common moulds found in a home. If your unsure what you’re looking at, get a laboratory to test it for danger levels, or a professional to clean up the mould.

Some Common Indoor Moulds

This is a short list of the more common moulds that grow in households and their colours. Since moulds are incredibly diverse, even within the individual species, it isn’t a complete picture, but it may help in explaining why ‘black mould’ isn’t synonymous with ‘dangerous’.

Cladosporium

Cladosporium is a very common mould. It can appear green, brown, grey or black on surfaces. It is classified as either Hazard Class B or C, depending on the species – i.e., allergic reactions are generally the only concern with Cladosporium. It can grow in many places, including walls, wood, dust, and insulation.

Aspergillus

Aspergillus is another common mould. It can look grey, brown, yellow, green, white, or black. There are many species in the genus, and they generally fall into Hazard Classes A or B. Some can cause infection in people with weak immune systems, and some of them can make toxins in certain circumstances. Others will only cause allergic reactions. Aspergillus can grow on walls, insulation, paper products, soil, clothing, and many other places.

Penicillium

Penicillium is a name that often strikes people as familiar, and that is because modern antibiotics were discovered thanks to a species of Penicillium long ago. However, that doesn’t mean that the genus can’t be hazardous. It can look blue, green, or white, and its species are generally classified as B or C. It can be found on foods, such as cheese and fruit, or in the walls, the insulation, and other places.

Ulocladium

Ulocladium usually looks black or grey. It falls into hazard classes B and C, and tends to grow in damp areas. It can be found on walls, around windows, in dusty areas, and other places.

Acremonium

Acremonium is often found on insulation and drywall/sheetrock, although it can be found in many other areas, too – it grows in damp places. It can appear white, grey or brown, and various species are found in all three hazard classes.

Stachybotrys

Stachybotrys is the infamous black mould that made the news in association with ill health effects many years ago. It needs a very damp area to grow, and is considered a Hazard Class A mould, as it can create toxins. It looks black on surfaces.

Alternaria

Alternaria looks similar to Ulocladium under a microscope. It can appear black or grey on surfaces. It is classified as a Hazard Class B mould, and has been known to cause various allergic reactions. It can grow on walls, dusty areas, around windows, damp areas, in soil, on plants, and in various other places.

An important side note is that sometimes what you’re looking at is actually effluorescence rather than mould. This is a deposit of white salts, especially on concrete, where water has penetrated and left a salt deposit on the surface.

(Some of this information is thanks to Canadian website mouldfacts.ca/)
